Old Fashioned Meat Loaf Recipe from 1922

From Woman’s World Calendar Cook Book, 1922

I remember that my grandmother ground her own meat in a meat grinder that fastened to a counter or table. This recipe apparently does the same thing. But if you don’t want to grind your own meat, simply buy ground beef, pork, and veal from the store. Then follow the directions from there.

Old Fashioned Meat Loaf

1 pound beef
1 slice onion
2 sprigs parsley (optional)
1/2 pound fresh pork
1/2 pound veal
3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
1/2 cup water or milk
1 egg
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sage or poultry seasoning
Few grains pepper

Grind together meat, onion, and parsley, if used. Combine crumbs and water and cook until a thick paste is formed. Add this to meat, together with the slightly beaten egg and seasonings. pack into a greased bread pan and bake for an hour at 350 degrees.
